Deshima Sessions
It’s 1:17 a.m. Three new files just hit the session folder: Bass DI - Berlin (Germany), Guitars L/R — London (UK), Drum bounce - somewhere between time zones and a release deadline. Next to them is the producer’s note: “Hook is locked. Shorten the bridge. Less lyric in verse two.”
That’s Deshima Sessions in real life: no rehearsal-room routine, no fixed lineup - just songwriting, tracking, and production across distance, guided by one clear musical direction and a disciplined workflow.
## What is Deshima Sessions?
Deshima Sessions is the decentralized studio collective under Deshima Music - a producer-led format that develops, records, and releases music on its own initiative.
No fixed band lineup. No client briefs. No commissioned work.
We release our own records.
## Who
A core team handles production and engineering, working with international session players (“hired guns”). The lineup changes from song to song based on what the track calls for - not on who happens to be “in the band.”
Roles, credits, and responsibilities are clearly documented.
## What
We create original releases: songs, arrangements, and recordings tracked in different studios, then finished through one production pipeline.
The result is a curated catalog - released on major platforms and available for professional licensing.
## How
The workflow is remote and structured. Parts are recorded in each contributor’s studio and delivered to our session specs (clean takes, correct formats, tempo map/click, DI tracks and prints where it makes sense). Files are organized, versioned, and finished like any serious record:
editing/comping → cleanup → sound decisions → mix → master → release + metadata
Every step is about translation and release-readiness — not “demo vibes.”
## Where
Not in one place, but across many. Vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and other elements are tracked wherever the right players work - across cities and countries - then brought together inside the Deshima Sessions workflow (versions, internal review, final stems/masters).
## When
Not when a client sends a brief - when the song is done. We release once the performances, mix, and master are at release level and the credits/metadata are clean (single, EP, or album, depending on the project).
## Why
Because great records don’t require a traditional band setup. What matters is:
a song that holds up (hook, arc, lyric)
performances that feel right (timing, pocket, tone, attitude)
a workflow that turns takes into a finished record
That’s what this format is built for: international collaboration and fast iteration - without positioning ourselves as a service shop.
## What does that mean for you?
### For listeners
Studio-first releases with a clear musical point of view - made to translate on headphones, in the car, and on real speakers.
### For bands and artists
You can cover our songs within the legal framework: record your own version from scratch (no sampling of the original audio). If you want major lyric/melody changes, plan sampling, or need video use cleared, reach out first so it’s handled properly.
### For publishers, labels, brands, and music supervisors
The catalog is available for licensing/sync. Standard deals run through our licensing partners; special cases (exclusivity or bespoke licensing terms) can be discussed directly.
